Sunday 21st December - Christmas Fun Shoot
The club Christmas fun shoot was the usual feast of merriment and good spirited fun. The six novelty targets were chosen for their mix of easy and hard scoring zones and with the added complication of numerous, score cancelling balloons, we were ready for the shoot.
Once everyone had shot a couple of ends at each target the final scores once again showed Ian Holmes finding the high scoring areas and claiming first place with Geoff Hall runner up and one of our new members Jill Collin claiming third place.
During the buffet, which was organised by Ann Conifey, ably assisted by numerous helpers, there was a special visit from Santa with presents for everyone.
Jack Steel was the winner in the target design competition and his dad Kevin presented a surprise birthday cake to Jack in advance of his Christmas day birthday.
For many the highlight of the day was the traditional shooting of the wand, a simple process of elimination, shooting at progressively narrower strips of paper. Everyone managed to hit the first couple of rounds, but as the strips narrowed the numbers fell away to leave a handful shooting at the second last strip. When the arrows were scored there was a final head to head shoot off for first place between Ed Brown and Ian Norwood. The tension was quite intense whilst they shot one arrow at a time in a truly gripping finale. Ed had a couple of very near misses but Ian held his nerve and just nicked the edge to win in the the third end.

The Manning trophy for the Archer Of The Year was awarded to our Life President Jim Maughan for his dedication to the club and it was graciously accepted with a short speech.
Donations in lieu of exchanging Christmas cards raised £35.90 and this money has been sent to the chosen charity, the PDSA.

Well, that was our last club shoot of 2008. We hope that 2009 brings another year of high scores and achievements for everyone. Personally I would just settle for nice dry and calm outdoor season.  Happy New Year & good shooting to you all.

Club Closure
Due to the Christmas break, and exams at the school, the club is closed after 21st December until our return on 25th January. Should you wish to stay in shape, have a word with Ian Norwood for details of alternative shooting venues during this period.
