June 2009
The challenge for the Jim Maughan trophy was as exciting as usual in May. Alex Hall managed to hang on to the trophy despite close competition from the others, she also had her 13th birthday in May so has the extra challenge of being in the next age bracket for junior ladies. Well done and congratulations Alex.

I’ve had a little story given to me by Kevin Steel:

Sunday 7th June 2009
Steve Surtees starts and finishes his Longbow career in one afternoon…

After “calling” the Archers with the “Bent Sticks” for many years, Steve Surtees decided to chance his hand at Longbow during the lunchtime catch-up ends.

His first shot went high over the wrong 60 yard target, but Steve’s explanation was that, that was just his “sighter”…
Steve’s second shot hit the Compound 10 on the correct 60 yard target.

Handing back the Longbow to Dave Olsen, Steve declared
that “I think I have this Longbow malarkey sussed, so there is no point carrying on…I may as well pack it in now”.

Dave and Shona congratulated Steve on his remarkable ability with comments such as “Oh, Well Done Steven!” and “That was pure brilliance!”
(At least that’s what I am printing because children may read this [Ed])

Thanks Kevin
